Fortified settlement with Iron Age occupation and significant Roman remains, overlooking the Sabor River.

Gimonde Hillfort occupies a small schist hill overlooking the Sabor River. Archaeological finds indicate an Iron Age fortified settlement protected by a wall, tower and rock-cut ditch. The site continued to be occupied during Romanisation, as shown by building materials, coins, hand mills and metal artefacts. Archaeological work also identified a forge and Roman epigraphic remains that may indicate the presence of a temple. The Roman road linking Bracara Augusta and Asturica Augusta passed nearby. The site is classified as a Property of Public Interest.
